The Heart of Missouri United Way Board of Directors has selected Andrew Grabau as its new Executive Director, effective June 15. Grabau will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, annual fundraising and leading community initiatives.
Grabau has sixteen years of nonprofit and fundraising experience. As a senior director of development at the University of Missouri since 2006, Grabau created three new fundraising programs at MU for the Truman School of Public Affairs, the Graduate School, and most recently, the Mizzou Advantage. Prior to MU, Grabau worked for the Sigma Chi Educational Foundation in Chicago for seven years in expanding roles involving volunteer board management, fiscal management, public speaking, and marketing. Grabau earned a Bachelors in Political Science from the University of Missouri in 1997 and a Masters in Public Service Management with honors from DePaul University.
His dedication and passion to the United Way are influenced by his community experiences of growing up in Southwest Missouri and his service in the Columbia community with the City of Columbia New Century Fund, St. Thomas More Newman Center, in addition to other nonprofit and service-based organizations.
Grabau and his wife, Ashli, have lived in Columbia since 2006. They have two children. Jan Swaney, Board President said, “Andrew Grabau is a great choice to lead HMUW into the future. We had a large pool of applicants from which to choose, and his passion for community service, strong track record in fundraising, ability to think strategically and bring people together for the common good were very impressive. We couldn’t be more excited about his leadership as we strive to strengthen the communities in mid-Missouri and make a difference for our kids.”
