Heart of Missouri United Way Coalition Fights Back Against Poverty

COLUMBIA, MO (April 16, 2015) – U.S. Census data estimates (2013) that one in five people in Boone County live in poverty. Thousands more are mere paychecks away from the same dilemma. Heart of Missouri United Way Campaign Chairs Mary and Greg Ropp have teamed up with 42 enthusiastic community leaders to lay the foundation for the 2015 United Way Campaign providing critical support to those in need.

The rally, this Thursday, April 16 at 5:30pm at Columbia Honda, will celebrate this impressive network of leadership that will take the helm to coordinate efforts for the 2015 community fundraising campaign. In addition to Columbia Mayor Robert McDavid, a special performance by local rap artist NicDanger will cap off the event. Also in attendance will be fellow Tri-chairs Mike & Sarah Messer and Allen & Bev Curtis.

The gathering is just the beginning of an exciting 2015 United Way Campaign season. “I look across the faces of the many people who have raised their hand to join me in this effort, and I know that this is going to be a fantastic year!” says Lead Tri-Chair Mary Ropp. This volunteer network will champion the cause, in various divisions throughout the community and in partnership with agencies and companies, to raise the necessary funds to fuel vital community programs and services.
